Today I am BRAINSTORMING ideas for my I-Search, so I put away my inner editor and am just
  • Alzheimers disease
  • teaching abroad during the summer
  • volunteer
  • starting recycling program at Peabody Elementary School
  • teaching teachers at Regis, Metro, etc.
  • consulting
  • fracking
  • Steamboat
  • Bells Palsy
  • Ramsay Hunt Syndrome

What is my TOPIC? Recycling at Peabody Elementary School

Why am I interested in this TOPIC?
  • Sandburg Elementary School raises more than $15,000 a year recycling!!! WE can do this to...with the research

What do I hope to learn from my research?
  • By researching the recycling program options for our school, I will be better able to help to form a recycling team that could handle this fund-raising, globally aware activity for our community.

Research QUESTION?
  • How can I form a sustainable, efficient fund-raising/recycling team at Peabody Elementary school.

Although I have not written in this I-Search journal for some time, it is not that I haven't thought of this topic a ton. I actually am really torn between finding out more about my daughter's illness and helping this school to raise money. I think that despite it all, I will stick with the recycling topic, as the other topic is so overwhelming on a daily basis and not really a journey that I am willing to share.
Steps that I have taken thus far.
  • Visited Sandburg Elementary and interviewed Marj McDonald, and toured the facilities. They raise an incredible amount of money per year. However the principal dedicated over 12 hours of her own time to this project every weekend!
  • We've formed a committee here at Peabody.
  • Arranged another visit to Franklin Elementary - Sara Tierney...

Wow! Major breakthrough today. I feel really badly that I have done such a poor job of modeling this process. It is new to me as well, and everyday is a learning process. What I finally figured out today was, based upon my research about research papers, was that I need to do a better job of guiding my students STEP BY STEP. The best site that I found was a QUESTION template. Here is the link.

I tweaked it majorly, and it became an amalgamation of the note-catcher template and the question template. Here is how I layed it out.
